How the review works
- You upload the quote (or email it) with your state.
- We match each line to the procedures we track — crowns, root canals, implants, dentures, extractions and 60+ more — using the CDT code (the D-code on your quote or EOB) or the written description.
- We benchmark each price against the state range published on this site (the same data behind our state cost pages and procedure cost list).
- You get a written verdict per line: below range, typical, or above range — plus the published range itself so you can verify every number.
The comparison uses only data we publish openly. You can reproduce every check yourself from our methodology — the review just saves you the hour of looking things up.
Why quotes vary — and when "expensive" is still fair
A price above the state median isn't automatically a rip-off. Case complexity, materials (zirconia vs. PFM crowns), specialist vs. general dentist, and practice overhead all move real prices within — and sometimes beyond — published ranges. That's why we report where your quote sits in the published band and hand you the right questions, instead of a verdict like "overcharged". What we will flag plainly: line items multiple times above the published state band, duplicate charges, and vague lines that can't be benchmarked at all.
When a second opinion on the price pays off
You don't need one for every filling. The situations where a price check — ours or anyone's — earns its keep:
- A big-ticket treatment plan (implants, full-mouth work, multiple crowns) where even a modest per-line overage compounds into thousands.
- A line sitting far above the published state band with no written explanation of the complexity behind it.
